WHERE NO ROADS GO, YOUR PATH BEGINS

Kodiak Alaska’s healthy population of Blacktail, combined with its unparalleled landscape, make the island a hunting destination you don’t want to miss! Whether you're interested in quickly locating your great eating spike buck on the beach (affording you time to catch a few bonus fish) or are on a quest for a world-class animal high on the ridge, Driftwood Wilderness Lodge will put you in a position to be successful. Comfortably glassing with your binoculars from the cabin of a 26-foot aluminum landing craft will help you save energy and capitalize on the opportunity when it presents itself!

FROM ‘HUNTING THE GOATS OF KODIAK ISLAND’ – MARCH 2019 ISSUE OF OUTDOOR LIFE MAGAZINE

MOUNTAIN GOATS ARE FASCINATING CRITTERS. THEY ARE AMONG THE MOST MAJESTIC ANIMALS IN ALASKA, AND THE TERRAIN IN WHICH THEY LIVE ONLY ADDS TO THAT MAJESTY. THEY CAN TRAVEL WITH EASE WHERE NO HUMAN CAN FOLLOW (AT LEAST, NOT WITHOUT CLIMBING GEAR), AND THEY WOULD BE ALL BUT INVINCIBLE TO A HUNTER’S EFFORTS IF IT WERE NOT FOR ONE CHARACTER FLAW: THEY ARE GLUTTONOUS. GOATS LIKE THE VERY BEST FEED. MOST OF THE TIME, THERE IS PLENTY FOR THEM TO LIVE ON IN THE HIGH COUNTRY WHERE THEY SPEND MOST OF THEIR TIME, BUT THE LUSHEST PLANTS GROW LOWER ON THE MOUNTAIN AND ARE TOO TEMPTING FOR GOATS TO RESIST.

Goats are harder to come by – and they require that the hunters do some climbing. But Nick knows where to find them, and has skinned his share. They have a beautiful soft and lustrous coat, as well as surprisingly delicious meat.
